Mercy For Ignorance

The purpose of this study is to examine YAH’s mercy as it applies to mans lack of understanding concerning Theocratic laws and precepts. Our objective is to answer the following questions:

  • What is mercy for ignorance?
  • Who receives mercy for ignorance?
  • When are we no longer ignorant?
  • How will we be judged?
  • Who are our brothers and sisters?

YAH has always extended his Mercy to those who lacked the knowledge and understanding to keep his covenant correctly. Mercy for ignorance is applicable to all the sons of Adam just as judgment is for wickedness.

Why did YAH destroy all but Noah in the beginning of days?

and didn’t spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the unreverent; (2 Peter 2:5 RNEB)

Why did YAH destroy Sodom and Gomorrah?

and delivered righteous Lot, who was very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked (for that righteous man dwelling among them, was tormented in his righteous soul from day to day with seeing and hearing lawless deeds): (2 Peter 2:7-8 RNEB)

Why was YAH going to destroy Nineveh?

Now the word of YAH came to Yonah the son of Ammittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.” (Jonah 1:1-2 RNEB)

YAH allows all the sons of Adam to govern themselves based on inherent righteousness, or righteousness within their conscience which is found coded in our laws. It’s only when a nation becomes to perverse that he destroys them. In the mean time he is chastening them for their correction and warns them through the righteous, who he raises in their midst.

(for when Gentiles who don’t have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, (Romans 2:14 RNEB)
“Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living Elohim, who made the sky and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them; WHO IN THE GENERATIONS GONE BY ALLOWED ALL THE NATIONS TO WALK IN THEIR OWN WAYS. (Acts 14:15-16 RNEB)

When we come into the knowledge of the truth according to the laws of YAH, then there is no more room for ignorance. We are held accountable to a standard that might not be understood by those around us or may be considered subjective based on culture. YAH’s code of ethics rules over all! When we hear and understand TRUTH, we are commanded to practice it, we can no longer use the excuse of ignorance.

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; BUT NOW THEY HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR THEIR SIN. (John 15:22 RNEB)

Three hundred years of ignorance (traditions and interpretations) kept them in ignorance until Yahshua taught sound doctrine and returned Yisrael to the fundamental teachings of the Torah, then they no longer had an excuse.

For the Torah was given through Moshe. Grace and TRUTH CAME THROUGH YAHSHUA THE ANOINTED. (John 1:17 RNEB)

Notice Yahshua’s question and Peters response in the next verse.

Yahshua said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom would we go? YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE. (John 6:67-68 RNEB)

Once a person sees the truth and understands the will of YAH, they are no longer walking in ignorance.

Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Yahshua said to them, “IF YOU WERE BLIND, YOU WOULD HAVE NO SIN; BUT NOW YOU SAY, ’WE SEE.’ THEREFORE YOUR SIN REMAINS. (John 9:40-41 RNEB)

When we’re ignorant, we are blind. When we’re knowledgeable we see. This applies to all of the sons of Adam, regardless of what they call themselves, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Muslim, Pantheist, etc.

THE TIMES OF IGNORANCE THEREFORE ELOHIM OVERLOOKED. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, (Acts 17:30 RNEB)

Remember, YAH is no respecter of persons.

For there is no partiality with Elohim. For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before Elohim, but the doers of the law will be justified (Romans 2:11-13 RNEB)

If we don’t know the written law, but by conscience, we are keepers of the law, as demonstrated by our actions, we will be judged righteous.

Since there is mercy for ignorance who should we consider our brothers and sisters in the truth? Anyone who is in the covenant is considered a brother or sister. Those who are seeking righteousness are pledging until they enter the covenant.

One said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you.” But he answered him who spoke to him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” He stretched out his hand towards his disciples, and said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! FOR WHOEVER DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN, HE IS MY BROTHER, AND SISTER, AND MOTHER.” (Matthew 12:47-50 RNEB)

Conclusion

If a person keeps all the mandates of the Moral law by conscience it’s possible for them to be judged as righteous at final judgment assuming the were completely ignorant of the truth. The moral guidelines we’re judged by are not based on what man believes is right, but the standard set forth by YAH, so this is far from a free ticket to eternal life with the Father.
