Man & Woman, The Marriage Covenant III

The purpose of this study is to analyze the spiritual roles of man and woman, a man and his wife, and a wife and her husband, as it relates to the spiritual guidelines mandated by YAH. This will help us to look at ourselves through the laws and precepts of Elohim to see if we’re meeting his expectations and receiving the just rewards of peace and stability as he has promised to those who love him and keep his commandments. We will be answering the following questions.

  • What was Man created to do?
  • What position was Man given after he was created?
  • Why was the woman created?
  • How does a man equip himself to walk righteously and fulfill his role?
  • What are the roles and position of the man now?
  • What characteristics should be exemplified by man?
  • What should a righteous woman look for in a man?
  • What’s the woman’s part in the family?
  • What happens when either the man or the woman doesn’t fulfill their role?

Once we establish an understanding on this topic it’s our hope that you will take the time to do a self analysis to see if your meeting the expectations of Elohim and address any transgressions that exist.

One of our primary concerns should be the relationship between the man, the woman, and Elohim. This is a critical relationship given that it involves our social as well as theocratic development. The proper understanding of this union and the roles and responsibilities of the man and woman has been slowly deteriorating. Through an exhaustive study of scripture, we will clearly present the standard and expectations of YAH, Elohim.

Our emphasis to this point has been on showing the man as a corporate institution, and we looked at examples of what he should not do as well as the way he should run his house and treat his wife. So, who is Man?

the son of Metushelach, the son of Chanokh, the son of Yered, the son of Mahalal’el, the son of Kenan, the son of Enosh, the son of Shet, THE SON OF ADAM, THE SON OF ELOHIM. (Luke 3:37-38 RNWEB)

All men are the sons of Elohim.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of Elohim, these are children of Elohim. (Romans 8:14 RNWEB)

Elohim has many sons but the prerequisite is to walk in righteousness. When a male or female is seeking to marry someone they should be seeking a child of the covenant. This is the only way to describe someone that is trying to exude Elohim’s personality, character, and desires. His ways bring peace, harmony, and love.

Lets look at what Moshe said as he quotes the forty year history of Yisrael just before he died.

BUT YOU WHO DID CLEAVE TO YAH your Elohim are alive everyone of you this day. (Deuteronomy 4:4 RNWEB)

The reason most people are in disorder is because they are holding onto everything but Elohim. Holding on to men can only bring chaos and confusion, this happens because men seek to do the right things in life and not the righteous things. They set their own standard of what’s right and wrong and have no regard for what the word of Elohim has mandated.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as YAH my Elohim commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; FOR THIS IS YOUR WISDOM AND YOUR UNDERSTANDING in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what great nation is there, that has a elohim so near to them, as YAH our Elohim is whenever we call on him? What great nation is there, THAT HAS STATUTES AND ORDINANCES SO RIGHTEOUS AS ALL THIS LAW, WHICH I SET BEFORE YOU THIS DAY? (Deuteronomy 4:5-8 RNWEB)

Elohim is found in his commandments, these are his instructions and guideline for living. It’s only when we internalize his word that it becomes alive and living in us.

Be imitators of me, even as I also am of the Anointed. Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know THAT THE HEAD OF EVERY MAN IS THE ANOINTED, and THE HEAD OF THE WOMAN IS THE MAN, and THE HEAD OF THE ANOINTED IS ELOHIM. (1 Corinthians 11:1-3 RNWEB)

This is the mandated hierarchy that YAH has established. This is not something we have the power to change, it’s law.

This is the Revelation of Yahshua the Anointed, WHICH ELOHIM GAVE HIM TO SHOW to his servants the things which must happen soon, which he sent and made known by his angel to his servant, Yochanan, (Revelation 1:1 RNWEB)

Yahshua has nothing to say, he follows the instructions of Elohim, because he’s under his leadership and direction.

But each in his own order: the Anointed the first fruits, then those who are the Anointed’s, at his coming. Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to Elohim, even the Father; when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power. FOR HE MUST REIGN UNTIL HE HAS PUT ALL HIS ENEMIES UNDER HIS FEET. (1 Corinthians 15:23-25 RNWEB)

All of us are subject to Yahshua’s leadership and authority, which will be turned over to the Father in the end when all his enemies have been put under his feet.

The last enemy that will be abolished is death. For, “He put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when he says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that he is excepted who subjected all things to him. When all things have been subjected to him, THEN THE SON WILL ALSO HIMSELF BE SUBJECTED TO HIM WHO SUBJECTED ALL THINGS TO HIM, THAT ELOHIM MAY BE ALL IN ALL. (1 Corinthians 15:26-28 RNWEB)

Yahshua after fulfilling his role and achieving his mandate turns the kingdom over to the father, YAH. Yahshua is doing nothing more than carrying out orders and directives, he’s under the fathers authority, just as Man is under his, and woman is under mans. Elohim will receive his kingdom at the close of the millennial age.

But I would have you know that the head of every man is the Anointed, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of the Anointed is Elohim. (1 Corinthians 11:3 RNWEB)

Once a woman gets married, she should relinquish everything she has, including herself to the man.

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. (1 Corinthians 11:4-6 RNWEB)

If Man covers his head when he prays he dishonors his head, Yahshua the Anointed, if a woman does not cover her head, then she dishonors her head, her husband. This dishonor is the same as if she shaved her head. Lets look at this further so it’s clear what shaving the head represented in the Hebraic culture.

Harness the chariot to the swift steed, inhabitant of Lakhish. She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Tziyon; For the transgressions of Yisra’el were found in you. (Micah 1:13 RNWEB)
Shave your heads, and cut off your hair for the children of your delight. Enlarge your baldness like the rakham; for they have gone into captivity from you! (Micah 1:16 RNWEB)

When a woman cut her hair in this time it wasn’t because it was hard to manage, it was either because she was under a Nazarite vow, or it was done for shame.

You shall tell them, This is the nation that HAS NOT LISTENED TO THE VOICE OF YAH THEIR ELOHIM, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth. (Jeremiah 7:28 RNWEB)

This is speaking about Yisrael, a nation that would not receive correction because they wanted to do their own thing. Yisrael was married to Elohim and when a bride is under a covenant (married), they can’t do their own thing, there in subjection to their husband.

Cut off your hair, [Yerushalayim], and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for YAH has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. (Jeremiah 7:29 RNWEB)

YAH was calling Yisrael and abomination because they were not being obedient to the covenant, he told them to shave their head because it was shameful for a woman to be shaved. He was literally telling them to debase themselves for what they had done. Remember Yisrael is Elohim’s bride, and it shames a woman to shave her head because it’s part of their adornment.

When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and YAH your Elohim delivers them into your hands, and you carry them away captive, and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire to her, and would take her to you as wife; THEN YOU SHALL BRING HER HOME TO YOUR HOUSE; AND SHE SHALL SHAVE HER HEAD, AND PARE HER NAILS; (Deuteronomy 21:10-12 RNWEB)

In this situation the woman had to shave her head and cut her nails, literally remove her adornments, so she can be rebuilt in the culture. Everything the woman took gratification in about herself was taken away so she could be raised in the culture from a point of humility, putting away what she was before.

For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of Elohim, but THE WOMAN IS THE GLORY OF THE MAN. (1 Corinthians 11:5-7 RNWEB)

If a woman chooses to pray or prophesy without covering her head, she should shave her head, if she doesn’t want to shave it, then she should keep it covered.

For man is not from woman, but woman from man; (1 Corinthians 11:8 RNWEB)

The woman needs to respect this hierarchy.

YAH Elohim said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18 RNWEB)

If a man is in a relationship and leading and guiding, the expectation is the woman would be helping, anything else would not be of a spiritual design, and directly opposed to what Elohim set forth in the beginning.

Out of the ground YAH Elohim formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. (Genesis 2:19 RNWEB)

Man had the authority and dominion over the earth, and he was expected to rule and govern through the guidelines that Elohim set forth. He named the animals because that came under his authority as prince of the earth. When Adam was naming the animals there was a Malak [Angel] documenting everything he said, the names that were being associated with each beast were also being accepted as their names in heaven.

The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him. YAH Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. He made the rib, which YAH Elohim had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man. THE MAN SAID, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. SHE WILL BE CALLED WOMAN, because she was taken out of Man.” THEREFORE A MAN WILL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND HIS MOTHER, AND WILL JOIN WITH HIS WIFE, AND THEY WILL BE ONE FLESH. (Genesis 2:20-24 RNWEB)
for neither was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this cause the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. (1 Corinthians 11:9-10 RNWEB)

The covering on the woman’s head was a symbol of authority, to show the angels, she was under the authority of her husband.

This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living oracles to give to us, (Acts 7:38 RNWEB)

It has always been the angels that have acted as Ambassadors of Elohim.

You received the Torah as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!” (Acts 7:53 RNWEB)

All interactions of Elohim with mankind have always been done through angels, he has always used them as his agents. This is why the head covering that a woman wears is because of the angels.

Nevertheless, neither is the woman independent of the man, nor the man independent of the woman, in the Master. For as woman came from man, so a man also comes through a woman; but all things are from Elohim. (1 Corinthians 11:11-12 RNWEB)

We need to keep everything in proper context, though the man was given the authority, a woman must be treated with respect, since the man now comes from women, and she also was made in the image of Elohim. The union should be predicated on the word of Elohim, both parties in submission to his laws, ordinances, and precepts.

In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety; not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing; (1 Timothy 2:9 RNWEB)

A woman should be modestly dressed and properly covered.

but (which becomes women professing obedience) with good works. Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. But I don’t permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. For Adam was first formed, then Chavah. (1 Timothy 2:10-13 RNWEB)

The priesthood and spiritual authority were given to man, the woman are not supposed to participate in this area or be put in a position where they would have authority over men. This does not mean she can’t assist her husband and express her opinions, but ultimately the man is the one that has the last word. The man would be wise to listen to what his wife says, since she will see things he can’t. The woman and the man were designed to be in balance, each one having attributes that the other doesn’t so they can compliment one another.

They heard the voice of YAH Elohim walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of YAH Elohim among the trees of the garden. YAH Elohim called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Elohim said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:8-12 RNWEB)

Here is an example of a man giving his authority over to the woman, he knew it was wrong to eat the fruit, however he chose to listen to his wife and partake.

YAH Elohim said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:13 RNWEB)
To the woman he said, “I WILL GREATLY MULTIPLY YOUR PAIN IN CHILDBIRTH. In pain you will bring forth children. YOUR DESIRE WILL BE FOR YOUR HUSBAND, AND HE WILL RULE OVER YOU.” (Genesis 3:16 RNWEB)

This is why women have to go through labor and pain during child bearing. This is a generational curse handed down to all the daughters of Chavah. The word of Elohim goes on to say by decree, that the woman’s desire will be for her husband, and he will rule over her.

To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. (Genesis 3:17-18 RNWEB)

Because Adam disobeyed Elohim and didn’t exercise the proper authority over the situation the ground was cursed.

Man needs to listen to his wife, but make the final decision based on careful consideration, while upholding the righteous ordinances and precepts of Elohim.

By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The man called his wife Chavah, because she was the mother of all living. (Genesis 3:19-20 RNWEB)

Adam named his wife Chavah which means the mother of all living, because she is the mother of all the children of man.

Now concerning the things about which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman. (1 Corinthians 7:1 RNWEB)

Not everyone can receive this, it’s difficult for many men to become a eunuch, someone who chooses to live his life in celibacy.

But, because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife the affection owed her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. (1 Corinthians 7:2-3 RNWEB)

Shaul said a man should take care of his conjugal relations with his wife and the wife to do the same with her husband.

The wife doesn’t have authority over her own body, but the husband. Likewise also the husband doesn’t have authority over his own body, but the wife. (1 Corinthians 7:4 RNWEB)

The man and woman surrender the authority over there bodies to one another once there married.

Don’t deprive one another, unless it is by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Satan doesn’t tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (1 Corinthians 7:5 RNWEB)

Neither one should withhold physical relations from the other, especially as a means of manipulation.

But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment. Yet I wish that all men were like me. However each man has his own gift from Elohim, one of this kind, and another of that kind. But I say to the unmarried and to widows, it is good for them if they remain even as I am. But if they don’t have self-control, let them marry. For it’s better to marry than to burn. (1 Corinthians 7:6-9 RNWEB)
let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; BUT LET THEM BE IN SUBJECTION, AS THE LAW ALSO SAYS. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the assembly. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35 RNWEB)

The woman’s role in a relationship is not to be an equal partner, it’s the husband that has the authority under the laws of Elohim.

After a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave to them, and they ate: but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion. His father went down to the woman: and Shimshon made there a feast; for so used the young men to do. It happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him. Shimshon said to them, LET ME NOW PUT FORTH A RIDDLE TO YOU: IF YOU CAN DECLARE IT TO ME WITHIN THE SEVEN DAYS OF THE FEAST, AND FIND IT OUT, THEN I WILL GIVE YOU THIRTY LINEN GARMENTS AND THIRTY CHANGES OF CLOTHING; BUT IF YOU CAN’T DECLARE IT TO ME, THEN SHALL YOU GIVE ME THIRTY LINEN GARMENTS AND THIRTY CHANGES OF CLOTHING. They said to him, Put forth your riddle, that we may hear it. He said to them, Out of the eater came forth food. Out of the strong came forth sweetness. They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle. It happened on the seventh day, that THEY SAID TO SHIMSHON’S WIFE, ENTICE YOUR HUSBAND, THAT HE MAY DECLARE TO US THE RIDDLE, LEST WE BURN YOU AND YOUR FATHER’S HOUSE WITH FIRE: HAVE YOU CALLED US TO IMPOVERISH US? is it not [so]? (Judges 14:8-15 RNWEB)

The men asked Shimshon’s wife to deceive her husband, this type of deception is common in scripture and should prompt a man to give careful consideration when choosing a wife.

Shimshon’s WIFE WEPT BEFORE HIM, AND SAID, YOU DO BUT HATE ME, AND DON’T LOVE ME: you have put forth a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it me. He said to her, Behold, I haven’t told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you? (Judges 14:16 RNWEB)

Look at what the woman is doing, she is starting the process of wearing down the man.

She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it happened on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him sore; and she told the riddle to the children of her people. (Judges 14:17 RNWEB)

These are acts of provocation, she’s causing the man to become unsettled. She cried for seven days, she absolutely tormented him until he told her.

The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? He said to them, IF YOU HADN’T PLOWED WITH MY HEIFER, YOU WOULDN’T HAVE FOUND OUT MY RIDDLE. (Judges 14:18 RNWEB)

Shimshon was referring to his wife as property, meaning the woman belongs to the man, he rules over her, he governs her steps in righteousness, and she follows him in righteousness. To operate outside this construct is blaspheming Elohim who ordained and established these precepts in the very beginning. There is no record anywhere that they were ever changed.

The Spirit of YAH came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and struck thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes [of clothing] to those who declared the riddle. His anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house. (Judges 14:19 RNWEB)

Thirty men lost their lives because the woman provoked the man to know the answer to the riddle, then told others.

But Shimshon’s wife was [given] to his companion, whom he had used as his friend. (Judges 14:20 RNWEB)

Shimshon was so angry he drove his wife out of the house and her father assumed he divorced her for what she did, so he gave her to another man.

But it happened after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Shimshon visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in. (Judges 15:1 RNWEB)

After Shimshon’s wrath had passed, he came back looking for his wife.

Her father said, I most certainly thought that you had utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion: isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her, instead. (Judges 15:2 RNWEB)

The women were treated like a possession, the father could give her too whoever he desired. Elohim ordained this practice and even set up rules and regulations to govern it.

Or don’t you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives? (Romans 7:1 RNWEB)

Man is under the law while he lives, and every decision made has to be in accordance with the laws of Elohim, which are found in the first five books of the bible.

For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. (Romans 7:2 RNWEB)

A married woman is under the laws of her husband while he lives, that means the rules and regulation he sets down as long as they don’t go against the laws of Elohim. Nothing should happen in the household without the mans approval, this does not mean the woman’s opinion should not be considered, part of the mans responsibility is to make sure his wife’s needs are met. If a woman’s husband dies, or she’s not married then she is directly under the laws of Elohim.

A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whoever she desires, ONLY IN THE MASTER. (1 Corinthians 7:39 RNWEB)
